California Explicitly Bars Algorithmic Price Collusion, Raises Antitrust Penalties

On New Year’s Day laws go into effect in California that are intended to modernize and strengthen the Cartwright Act, the state’s primary antitrust statute. On Oct. 6, Governor Gavin Newsom signed AB 325, which clarifies that collusion in the use of algorithmic pricing systems is illegal, and SB 763, which dramatically raises the stakes for antitrust law violators….
